ABOUT STONEWALL SPORTS TOURNAMENT + SUMMIT
Stonewall Sports, founded in 2010, is an LGBTQIA and ally community-based, non-profit sports organization that strives to raise funds for local non-profit organizations through organized sports. Our league values each player for who they are and what they bring to the each league's community. Our annual tournament is an opportunity for our growing community to join together in a weekend of sports, social events and community conversation. Along with past and current members of the Stonewall Sports community from across the country, we invite any and all LGBTQIA and Ally athletes to join us.
Our summit will give Stonewall members and allies an opportunity to have open and constructive conservations about important issues facing our community, both Stonewall specifically as well as the broader LGBTIA community. Our goal is to make the event available to in-person attendees as well as virtually to allow a broad representation of the Stonewall membership to take part. A preliminary list of topics for the event has been compiled, but we welcome additional input on issues that Stonewall members may want to see covered. Details about the summit are here.
Our tournament will consist of seven sports: kickball, dodgeball, volleyball, bocce, bowling, billiards and tennis. Rules and venues for each sport will be added to the website as the information becomes available. Registration is $45.00 plus a $2.50 processing fee, and will be open June 20 through July 18. Details about the tournament are here.
What measures are being taken to ensure player safety?
As the situation with COVID_19 is fluid, we will be following CDC guidelines along with any guidelines from Virginia’s governor at the time of the tournament. We will be updating this website and sending updates to registered players closer to the date of the tournament with more specifics on player safety.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
Registration for our seven tournament sports along with our Friends of Stonewall social registration is open to LGBTQIA and ally athletes ages 21 and over. Our sports page will have more details on registration requirements for each tournament sport as they become available.
CAN I SIGN UP AS A FREE AGENT?
Players (or small groups of players) from any city can join a free agent team! Our goal is for each team-based sport to offer at least one cross-city free agent team if enough free agent players register. We are committed to create structural pathways to support inclusion and cross-city engagement.
If you are interested in playing on one of these teams and meeting amazing players from other cities, please register for your desired sport and click the free agent option during registration. If you are interested in serving as a Captain of a free agent team, please email .
CAN I PLAY MORE THAN ONE SPORT?
We have not yet finalized the schedules for each sport so we are not able to answer this question just yet. If the schedules do not conflict players are eligible to register for more than one sport. Keep in mind that if you or your team advance in the tournament finals your game times may overlap.
WHAT IF I DON'T PLAY A SPORT?
Even folks who don’t want to play a sport can still participate in the summit and all other social events that happen during the tournament! Sign up to a be a Friend of Stonewall here!
CAN I VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUT?
Yes! This event would not be possible without the help of our many volunteers. If interested in helping out, contact Bryan Yamasaki, the Assistant Director of the Summit and Volunteers, at .
WHERE SHOULD I STAY?
Our host hotel will be announced shortly. More about travel and accommodations are on the Travel and Hotel page. We hope to have alternate hotel suggestions with participant discounts finalized soon.

Our Tournament Planning Committee is made up of 30 dedicated volunteers from Richmond, Cleveland, Norfolk, Raleigh, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Asheville. Our National Tournament Chair, Dan Lutz (Richmond), and Nationals Liaison, Matt Williams (Washington DC), work with the Directors of Tournament Experience and Operations, Community Engagement, Sports, Events, Summit, and Marketing to make sure we put on the best tournament possible. Our Directors each have a small team of volunteers with specific roles to fill.
The 2021 Tournament Planning Committee would like to thank the organizers of the 2020 tournament which was to be held in Cleveland, Ohio for their hard work. Their efforts gave us a huge head-start on planning this year's tournament and we owe them a debt of gratitude.
